July Sees a 0.3% Decline in Employment, Reveals Istat Report
Employment in Italy Drops in July
The number of people in employment in Italy in July fell by 0.3% compared to the previous month, according to data from Istat, the national statistics agency. This translates to 73,000 fewer active workers, bringing the total number of employed individuals to 23,513,000.
First Drop in Employment After Seven Months of Growth
This decrease in employment marks the first drop after seven consecutive months of growth. The decline affected both men and women, as well as employees and the self-employed, specifically in the 25-49 year age bracket.
Employment Rate Falls to 61.3%
The employment rate in July also saw a decrease of 0.2 percentage points, reaching 61.3%.
Year-on-Year Increase in Employment
Despite the monthly decline, the number of people in employment rose by 1.6% compared to July 2022. This translates to 362,000 more individuals in work.
