Greece Reports Third Lowest Inflation in Eurozone, but Food Price Hikes Persist
Greece has recorded the third lowest inflation rate in the eurozone, with a rate of 2.4% in September, according to estimates from Eurostat. However, this does not necessarily mean that prices are low in Greece, especially when considering purchasing power, nor does it indicate that price hikes have ceased.
In fact, Eurostat's estimates revealed a 1.9% increase in the harmonized consumer price index in Greece in September compared to August, marking the largest monthly increase in the euro area.
Furthermore, the domestic market in Greece is showing concerning signs, as price hikes are now being observed in fruit and meat, following previous increases in vegetable prices.
The persisting inflation and rising food prices pose challenges for Greek consumers and their purchasing power.
